Born and raised in the New Orleans East, Harlon Lewis, more affectionately known to all as Coach Paddy, had a dream to become a solution to the problems our youth and community suffer from. Witnessing and experiencing the loss of friends and family to the violence we see everyday, Coach Paddy chose to use these experiences to provide guidance and support to today’s youth. He helps provide a better way for them to become successful and productive citizens in the community. He believes in giving back to the community and that the future of our youth is the way to achieve a better, more positive way of life. His strong work ethic and passion for making a difference has driven him to make his dream a reality, coaching and mentoring many of New Orleans’s youth.
Why did we choose the name Men of Excellence? The young kings of today deserve to see and know their inner excellence. They are more than what society and social media lead them to believe. This organization is based on learning about one’s potential and inner greatness. They define the true meaning of excellence and prove to themselves and the world how they are the makers of their own success. Excellence and success is not defined by perfection but by consistency, hard work, dedication, determination, and perseverance. The young men of today deserve to have their inner excellence shine brightly and provide a pathway of excellence for future generations.
Harlon Lewis has been coaching and mentoring today’s youth for over a decade. Known to all as Coach Paddy, he’s been coaching since 2012. He’s coached teams for parks/playgrounds, middle schools, and high schools. If he is needed and is able, he is there dedicating his time to molding the success of our youth and community. He started mentoring the youth a couple years after coaching. He found that his passion and love for coaching and giving back to his community could be fulfilled with mentoring those he coached. He’s taken his purpose even further by establishing Men of Excellence, an organization for young kings ages 8-17, to coach and mentor the youth into future generations of successful men of our community. He has shown many young men futures they never saw for themselves and watched these young men be the first in the family to graduate high school, be the first to go to college with and without scholarships, graduate college, become successful entrepreneurs, join a successful company, draft to the NFL and many other successful accomplishments. He won’t stop his purpose because today’s generation and the future generations of young kings deserve to achieve those same accomplishments and more.
